BVT introduces the future of the Royal Navy

BVT Surface Fleet has been introducing members of the public to the future of the Royal Navy at the Meet Your Navy event in Portsmouth.
The event, which is the Royal Navy’s principal marketing event of 2008, gives visitors the opportunity to experience the Royal Navy’s past, with ships like HMS Victory and the Mary Rose as well as explore the present by venturing on to some of the ships in the current fleet, such as HMS Illustrious. Visitors will also be treated to the BVT Future Zone, where they can get a feel for what it would be like to be on the bridge of one of the new Aircraft Carriers, or get a glimpse of a Type 45 Destroyer and the people who are building them by taking a look through the BVT telescope.
It is expected that the event will entice thousands of members of the public on to the Naval Base at Portsmouth during the course of the weekend to meet their Navy.
Speaking at the event, BVT Chief Executive Alan Johnston said, “Portsmouth Naval Base plays a vital role in the local community and Meet Your Navy is a fabulous way for members of the public to get to know more about these brave men and women and the ships that they serve on.
“Ships such as the Type 45 Destroyers and the new Aircraft Carriers are the future and I am delighted that BVT is providing the opportunity for visitors gain an insight into these strategically important vessels.
