BVT has a proven track record in the design and build of fleet tankers. The team at Govan played a key role in delivering the Wave Class for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary in partnership with BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness. RFA Wave Ruler was the second of the two ships in the class to be built and was launched in February 2001.
The 16,000 tonne LSD(A)s provide logistical support to the Royal Navy's amphibious assault ships and are operated by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
BVT's Govan facility in Glasgow built and delivered two of two Landing Ship Dock (Auxiliary) vessels, RFA Mounts Bay and RFA Cardigan Bay, for the UK government and also completed the fourth of class ship, the RFA Lyme Bay which was subsequently delivered more than two months ahead of schedule. Our team is currently providing a warranty and post delivery capability insertion service for the entire class.
Amongst a range of future concepts, BVT is currently developing designs for a new age of fleet tankers in response to the changing environmental requirements of the industry. These innovative concept ships will be double hulled vessels which will provide a more secure method of transporting cargoes, such as the fuel oil that powers the Royal Navy's fleet.
In addition, our naval architects and engineers have developed a number of innovative concept ships, including the UXV Combatant, a flexible vessel designed to operate and provide unmanned vehicles in a future battlespace.
The Naval Auxiliaries Support Team provides capability management and design support for all Royal Fleet Auxiliaries platforms under the RFASIPT Auxiliaries Design Assistance Programme (ADAP). The work includes alteration and addition upgrade and update design and implementation packages, feasibility studies and technical support.
